New activities in town – I explored Al Hudayriat Island

In the last week I was looking for some new adventures and activities in town and I checked out Al Hudayriat Island. Abu Dhabi’s new place for leisure close to Al Bateen beach.

When my friend Mariam told me about the new location I was super curious to check it out and went the last days for some cycles and explored it all the way.

So yes, lets start from the beginning.
I guess many of you Abu Dhabi people saw already the big bridge in Al Bateen, also called the bridge to nowhere. Nowhere became now Al Hudayriat Island and it’s just freaking awesome. Especially a place for active and outdoor loving people like me.

So Tim and I went now 2 times to the island and cycled 2 x 10 km.
It’s the perfect exercise and activity for the morning and a great alternative to our other sports we do in the gym.
We went now both times in the very early morning. 1st time on Saturday from 7 AM to 8 AM and during the week from 6.30 am till 8 am (before work).
You can easily bring your own bike or just rent one from Yas Cycles for 50 AED per hour.
During the week we were the only people cycling around and during the weekend we were together we a few others cyclists. However it was never crowded so far and also not to hot in the morning even its summer now here in the UAE.
I am actually super excited about the island because this was still missing in Abu Dhabi compared to Dubai. A place and beach which is free of charge and accessible for public. Now we got it: Al Hudayriat Island

So what I can suggest & recommend:
Go there in the morning and rent a bike at yas cycles.
Best time to go in my opinion is 5.30 AM – 7.30 AM.

Yas Cycles is open from 5.30 am till 10 am and 5 pm till midnight. So plenty of time to rock the road. However I am sure its much more busy in the evenings than during the morning.

By the way:
Beside cycling it is also nice for:
– swimming (they have a nice beach with free sun chairs & umbrellas
– food (lots of food trucks are there and that’s especially super cool in the evening)
– other sports (they are building up a lot of other great stuff such as football fields, volleyball fields and basketball & tennis courts)
