Hopfen am See – Germany travels

We have been to Hopfen am See! A small place close to Fuessen in Germany and enjoyed our trip very much!
Now we are more than happy to share some of the key facts with you.

This post is probably the shortest one we have ever published but we really only want to share our highlights with you.

Hopfen am See is a super nice place to travel to in Germany. It is located in the state of Bavaria, more specifically in the AllgΓ€u area – not very touristic yet and even in the peak season you are able to find a nice place to stay.
What we enjoyed the most was that we were able to do so many outdoor activities like hiking, swimming and riding the bike. Especially if you live in a country like we do, the United Arab Emirates, you miss all these things as we just don’t have this outdoor culture due to the hot weather and missing mountains over here.

So please find below the most important facts about our trip to Hopfen am See:

Where to stay:

We stayed at Hotel am Hopfensee.
It’s a nice hotel with 44 rooms and is located directly at the Hopfensee. You can upgrade to a comfort room with balcony and a view on the Hopfensee. It is very nice and definitely worth it. Additionally you’ll get the guest card where you can get discounted rates on sightseeing attractions, free bus rides and free parking in many places.
The hotel also has a small spa area with a jacuzzi and a nice sauna with view on the Hopfensee. I would definitely come again and stay here.

Where to eat:

Italian:
We went to Restaurant Riviera for great Italian food and ice cream. We can especially recommend the Italian dishes as they are very good.

Bavarian:
Additionally for great Bavarian food, you can check out the Biergarten on the camping side at Hopfen am See. They offer delicious Bavarian food and specialitites like Haxe and Knoedel etc.

Where to hike & what to do:

Tim and I tried some different hiking routes and tried to combine sightseeing with some adventure and can definilty recommend 2 routes for you.

1st route: Kalvarienberg, Schwansee, Schloss Neuschwanstein to Tegelberg.
This is a very goog tour for beginners as you will experience a wonderful view and a nice landscape without beeing challenged too much. The route is easy to hike and you just need proper shoes and that’s it.

2nd route: Koenigsrunde
The other hiking trip is a little bit more challenging. It is called Koenigsrunde and is a trip from the ground station of Tegelbergbahnd, via Rohrkopfhuette, all the way up to the top of Tegelberg.
The whole trip took us around 2 hours in a fast walking speed.
This route is definitly more challenging than the first one and you need to be more experienced. It is quite hard to hike for hours and you need to have proper hiking shoes.

Btw. you should definitly stop at one of the little ‘Alps” like Rohrkopfhuette or the one at Reitlift.
Amazing food and drinks for very good prices including a stunning view on the mountains and the beautiful landscape.
